Sell a Car With a Lien
You can sell a car with a lien if it rolls and there is a path to a transferable title. Nationwide Remarketing dba CarBidNow can help with an eligible lien payoff as part of the purchase — in all 50 states.
Important: Do not assume the full Instant Bid is your check. Instant Bid is the vehicle purchase price for the condition you enter. We explain the payoff and the seller-side amount before pickup.

Seller checklist — have this ready
- Lender / lienholder name
- About what you still owe — if you know it
- Who holds the title — you, the bank, or someone else?
- Underwater? — If the loan may be higher than the Instant Bid, call 1-877-669-2431 before you accept
- VIN + honest condition (running vs. inoperable)
- Co-owner / spouse names if the loan or title has more than one person
- Pickup address and a phone we can reach
If the title is still with the bank, say so early. We can help with titles. We do not buy a car with no path to a transferable title. Broader paperwork: Title help.
How the money works — plain English
- Instant Bid = purchase price for VIN + runs/inoperable status + title type at Get Instant Bid.
- Tell us about the loan — lender name, approximate balance if known, and who holds the title.
- We explain the payoff before pickup — what goes to the lienholder, what (if anything) is your check amount, and what documents are needed.
- Accept only if the math works — especially if you may be underwater.
- Pickup/check follows the split — typically 24–48 hours. The tow arrives after the explained payment split and title path are ready.

How condition still changes the bid
A running car and an inoperable car are not the same Instant Bid. Mark inoperable if it will not start. The vehicle still has to roll onto a tow truck. Wrong running status is a common reason the number changes at the truck.
Salvage or rebuilt with a lien? Still possible when paperwork transfers — mark the title type correctly. See Sell a salvage title car.
Pickup and what to bring
- Keys and fobs
- Title if you have it — or follow bank release instructions if the lender holds it
- Lender / payoff information and ID needed for transfer
- Clear tow access (gate codes, parking notes)
Pickup is typically 24–48 hours after acceptance — not a same-day promise. The driver brings a check at the truck for the agreed purchase handling explained before the appointment.

FAQ
Can you pay off my loan?
An eligible lien may be handled as part of the transaction. We explain the payoff before pickup. Do not assume the Instant Bid is entirely payable to you until the lender balance is confirmed.
What if I owe more than the Instant Bid?
Call 1-877-669-2431 before you accept. We will not guess the payoff on this page and we do not invent a “we always cover negative equity” promise. Underwater does not automatically kill the sale — it means you need a clear explanation first.
Does the car have to run?
No. It must roll. Mark inoperable when it will not start.
Do you pick up in all 50 states?
Yes. Pickup is available in all 50 states.
Who is the check made out to?
Payment follows the payoff split we explain before pickup. See How you get paid.
