Dealers Scam Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Customers By Frank-Ling / Mar 06, 2015 share Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest Email Share... The Fiat Chrysler Automobile Group (FCA), the parent company of Dodge Motors warned that some of their dealers may be running scams on their customers by taking orders for the car for stock they do not have. The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat edition is an American wunderkind supercar that gives between 300-707 horsepower at the touch of its high-tech command display screen, offers real-time adjustable suspension, and can be “tuned” through the on-board computer to act as an everyday drivable car or a dragster.Basically the Dodge Challenger Hellcat SRT combines the history of the muscle car past and the technological future.More Than They Can DeliverFCA warns that some of its dealers may be taking way too many orders for the Hellcat than they can actually deliver. Why? Only the top dealers that move the most cars in sales are invited to sell the Dodge Challenger Hellcat SRT, and of these lucky few, each dealership is allotted only ONE Hellcat per month. The car costs around $60,000 and upwards with all the extras, so not a whole lot of people are going to spring the cash for this Clark Kent/Superman car. But considering that it is only $60K, it is a bargain for those who want a car they can drive to work and also race at the drag strip with the touch of a button, without using special fuel. The problem with some dealers is that they’re taking orders knowing that they can’t supply the cars or downright can’t even get them because they don’t qualify with the manufacturer.FCA senior VP of communications Gualberto Ranieri, wrote on the FCA company blog that:"... an isolated number of dealers have taken a far greater number of orders than they could reasonably expect to fulfill."Specifically, this handful of dealers appears to have accepted large numbers of SRT Hellcat orders without regard to available supply, and without advising their customers that orders may not be filled, if at all, for many months or longer."Deposit with No ReturnsNot being able to come through on SRT Hellcat orders is bad, but some dealers may have taken it to another level by asking for non-refundable deposits on the non-existent cars. Because they don’t have the cars to sell, they still make off like bandits by keeping the deposit.Look But Don’t TouchFCA has enacted a policy where car dealerships, who do qualify to receive a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat per month, cannot let one sit on the showroom floor for more than 5-days. If the car remains unsold, the dealers will get excluded for getting another one the next month. This is to prevent dealers from using their allotment of a SRT Hellcat as a show and tell item.Tim Kuniskis, in charge of the Dodge Challenger brand said to dealers:"I want this car out in the marketplace so that somebody is sharing it with 50 of their friends and elevating the brand. That's what I want - not sitting in your showroom with a rope around it."Source: Car and Driver
